Philanthropy

In 1735, the Bristol Royal Infirmary (BRI) was founded thanks to the generosity of a dedicated group of individuals. The vision of those philanthropists for free healthcare supported the hospitals for over 200 years until the birth of the NHS in 1948.

It costs £1.5m to run all hospitals within University Hospitals Bristol and Weston NHS Foundation Trust for a single day. Bristol & Weston Hospitals Charity’s major donors follow in the footsteps of those early philanthropists to ensure that patients, their families and staff, all benefit from welcoming environments, state of the art equipment, the best staff training and innovative research. Our major donors continue to play an essential role in making a difference to patient care as we fund above and beyond what the NHS can provide.

If you'd like more information, please contact the Philanthropy Team by emailing [email protected] or [email protected] or by calling 0117 3700 847.
