What we fund

We'll fund the little things that make a big difference, going above and beyond to transform the experiences patients have in our hospitals, wherever the need is greatest. We fund the creation of welcoming, healing environments, innovative research, support staff training and development and provide world class technology and equipment.

Funding programs:

  • Older Care
  • Healing environments
  • Healthcare for all
  • Innovation and change

Eligibility

To receive funding from Bristol & Weston Hospitals Charity, you should be able to answer ‘yes’ to the following six questions:

  1. The request falls within the Charity’s funding programs?
  2. Is the request for something in the future? (We do not accept retrospective requests)
  3. Have you attempted to receive funding elsewhere? (We should be seen as last resort)
  4. Is there clear patient benefit?
  5. Is it in addition to NHS core provision?
  6. Will the expenditure be met with a positive public perception?

What we will not consider funding requests for:

  • Anything that should be considered 'core' provision by the Trust/NHS - this is what's normally provided by the Trust/NHS as standard. This could be equipment such as thermometers or shelving for stock, desks for staff, etc.
  • Retrospective funding requests
  • Requests for individual support for patients
  • Requests for training/education which is mandatory for staff
  • Replacement of equipment or items which are lost or damaged
  • Individual vouchers for staff as leaving gifts, thank you gifts, prizes, etc.
  • Staff social events
  • More than two members of staff to attend the same conference/event
  • European/Worldwide travel when a UK equivalent is available
  • Laptops or any IT equipment enabling staff to work from home or to do their job, unless it's part of a larger application for a previously non-existent new post, i.e. a pilot project
  • Anything that could make the public feel their donation is not being spent appropriately (the public perception test). If you would like to informally discuss an application, please get in touch with the grants team. Our grant policy and funding terms document can be found here.
