Your donations have been funding personal care products for the intensive care unit (ICU) at the Bristol Royal Infirmary.

The products provided include hair products for all types of hair, room sprays, deodorants, shaving foam and more. These products go a long way to making patients feel like themselves during a long stay in hospital.

Shanaz James, Senior Staff Nurse on ICU, said: “It’s often the sickest patients who benefit the most from these products as their families don’t think to bring toiletries.

The variety of products now on offer means getting your hair washed in hospital is no longer a privilege.

The ICU has 38 beds and the products are used by every patient, every day.

Shanaz added: “The products create some really special ‘golden moments’. We had an ECMO patient and I worked with her daughter for an hour and a half to brush and wash her hair. The patient couldn’t speak but she shed a tear.

“Another patient, who was in hospital with cancer, said the products made her feel like she was in a spa.”
