Our impact Latest news Fundraising in memory of Henry: £10,000 raised 9th July 2025 “A stoic, intelligent, and meticulous young man who cares deeply for his family and friends. The phrase “the candle that burns twice as bright burns half as long” has never been so true in respect of my brother, Henry Schofield.”– Ed Schofield Henry’s family and friends have been fundraising in his memory, raising more than £10,000 for the Teenager and Young Adult Unit (TYA) at Bristol Haematology and Oncology Centre (BHOC), where Henry had his treatment. He sadly passed away in April aged just 31. As well as collecting at Henry’s funeral, they organised a memorial football match at Ashton Gate Stadium. Ed added: “Henry’s passion for work, and love of all things mechanical and technical, was only ever surpassed by his infatuation with all things football!” “This meant that when the opportunity arose to play a full 90 minute 11-a-side match at Ashton Gate, we couldn’t pass up the chance to organise a charity match in my brother’s memory. So, we felt it was the least we could do as a family, especially at a place like Ashton Gate, to raise awareness not only of rhabdomyosarcoma cancer, but the amazing work that the TYA and oncology team at the BRI have done, and to therefore raise money for Bristol & Weston Hospitals Charity on behalf of Henry. “It was a phenomenal event. Both teams put on (much to their surprise) an excellent game of football which the crowd loved. A huge thank you to Puxton Park, Winscombe Football Club, and Bristol City Football Club for everything they did on the day. Henry would have been utterly blown away by every aspect of that unforgettable day. We have now managed to raise over £10,000 for the TYA since my brother passed away, and we hope to make the match an annual tradition not only to raise more money for Bristol & Weston Hospitals Charity, but of course to remember my amazing brother.” From everyone at Bristol & Weston Hospitals Charity and BHOC, we want to say a huge thank you to everyone involved in the football match and fundraising in memory of Henry. His legacy will be felt by patients at our hospitals for years to come. Fundraising in memory of a loved family member or friend is just one way to remember them and say thank you for the care they received at our hospitals. Manage Cookie Preferences
