Our impact Latest news ST MICHAEL'S HOSPITAL IS GOING PINK AND BLUE DONATE MAKE A TRIBUTEBUY A ST MIKE'S HOME A beacon of love at St MiKE'S Bristol & Weston Hospitals Charity and St Micheal’s Hospital are shining pink and blue light across Bristol during Baby Loss Awareness Week, Wednesday 9th to Tuesday 15th October. Each day this week between 7pm - 10pm we're sending a beacon of light and support into the night sky for those who have experienced devastating pregnancy and baby loss. We’re doing this in association with our Snowdrop Appeal which raised funds this summer to improve eight key hospital spaces in St Michael’s Hospital and Weston General Hospital, home to these traumatic moments of loss. We hope the light reaches families all across the city. CAN YOU SEE THE BEAMS? If you capture the beams in the night sky or the digital screens across Bristol tag us so we can see how far the light reaches @bwhospcharity #BLAW2024 #WaveOfLight JOIN THE WAVE OF LIGHT On the final evening of Tuesday 15th October at 7pm the beams will change to a warm white colour and will signify the start of the global ‘Wave of Light’ in the UK. The beams from the heart of St Michael’s Hospital will shine brightly into the sky for all those families who have experienced loss. The candlelight from the sky beams will then sweep across the city centre on JCDecaux UK’s digital screens in a first outside of London. From 7pm all of JCDecaux UK’s digital advertising screens in Bristol will only show the same image of a candle for the entire ‘Wave of Light’ hour. It will encourage a moment of reflection, calmness and support through the usual bustling streets. This is the moment people place candles in their windows or on their social media to remember their baby and the little lives longed for and loved deeply. Here's a candle to download and share on your social media or print out to put in your window and join the wave of light. Download candle for the wave of light WE’RE IMPROVING HOSPITAL SPACES FOR THESE FAMILIES Thanks to generous appeal donors, we’ve been able to equip our NHS with rooms full of calming artwork, comfortable and more appropriate furniture, dimmable lighting and audio facilities in these spaces that are critical to a family’s processing and healing. This first week of Baby Loss Awareness Week in October sees the refurb work in the Lavender Suite completed. This is a self-contained family space in the heart of St Michael’s Hospital where people can spend as much time as they want with their baby. Other spaces include early pregnancy rooms, the mortuary viewing room and waiting areas. The picture shown below is of the existing space and an example of the artists previous work in a similar space. We will share photos of the new space as soon as everything is finished.
