Our impact Our impact Nail cutting training Your donations have funded specialist training for NHS staff so that they can safely cut patients' nails. Three training sessions have taken place for members of staff in medicine, surgery, specialist services and for staff at Weston General Hospital. In total, 75 members of staff have received training. Funding also provided nail care kits, including nail clippers, files and more. Poor nail care can directly impact older patients' ability to mobilise, which can increase the care needs for the patients on discharge from hospital. Untended and overgrown nails also pose several risks, including infection and wound development, as well as affecting a patient's dignity and self-esteem. Annemarie Graf, Tissue Viability Specialist Nurse at Bristol Royal Infirmary and Weston General Hospital, said: "Previously there was no provision of an inpatient podiatry service for foot care and nail cutting. "One stroke patient had his hand in a fixed position and his nails were growing into his palm and digging into his skin. Now we can safely cut patients' nails to reduce discomfort and improve their overall health." By making a donation, you can fund projects to reduce health inequality and improve a patient's stay in hospital. Donate now Manage Cookie Preferences
