Our impact Our impact Event for former intensive care unit patients On Tuesday 21st October, past patients of the intensive care unit (ICU) at the Bristol Royal Infirmary gathered together with their family, relatives and NHS staff at the SS Great Britain. The event was about celebrating the patients’ journey and recognising how difficult it is for not only the patient, who is extremely unwell and admitted for treatment in intensive care, but also the impact it has on the patient's family and the recovery. Many patients were meeting the team who cared for them and celebrating their journey since treatment on the ICU. Liz Fitzgerald, Matron on ICU, said: “For patients going through this experience, having an opportunity to see others who have also had a similar journey is comforting and this event offered an opportunity to celebrate their health together. "It also allowed staff to gain valuable feedback from patients and their families, as our patients come from Bristol and the wider South West and Wales area for critical care support and specific speciality treatment. For some of those patients It can be difficult for them to return to Bristol following their stay with us so this event provided our former patients and families the opportunity to feedback to us so we can shape our future care for critical care patients. “It was a fantastic evening that everyone enjoyed and I want to extend our thanks to the charity and its supporters.” Your donations make events like this possible.
