GREAT THINGS we've funded

Thanks to the generosity of those making a gift in their will, Bristol & Weston Hospitals Charity was able to make a contribution of £500,000 to a £1.9 million redevelopment of the Eye Hospital. A new dedicated children’s unit was created for the hospital which includes a waiting area with toys and soft play, a children’s optometry room, four extra consulting rooms and a genetic eye clinic large enough for families to be seen together. It also meant a new retinal treatment and research unit was made possible bringing research and treatment more closely together allowing the team to see many more patients on clinical trials.

New indirect ophthalmoscopes

The devices, which are used to look at the back of the eye and diagnose retinal detachment, are used on immobile patients attending A&E at BEH, therefore causing as little distress as possible.
